Gonzalo Castillo leads PLD presidential preferences for 2028 according to Markestrategia

The internal political landscape of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) is beginning to take shape ahead of the 2028 presidential elections. According to data revealed by the most recent national survey from the firm Markestrategia, the former Minister of Public Works, Gonzalo Castillo, is positioned as the undisputed favorite among the supporters of the purple organization.

The study, conducted during the first days of October 2026, places Castillo with 61.0% support among respondents who identify with the PLD. This lead marks a considerable distance from his party colleagues who are also mentioned in the race.

In the general sample spectrum, which encompasses citizens of diverse political affiliations, Castillo maintains his lead with 38.7%, surpassing Abel Martínez (13.8%), Francisco Javier García (12.2%), and Francisco Domínguez Brito (4.5%).

Direct confrontation scenarios

The research proposed a hypothetical head-to-head scenario between Gonzalo Castillo and Francisco Javier García. In this matchup, Castillo’s lead is further consolidated, reaching 68.1% among PLD members, compared to 15.4% for García. When analyzing the general sample, Castillo obtains 43.7% against 17.4% for his opponent.

The results reflect a marked trend towards the former minister, who manages to capture the interest of voters transversally, both in the party’s core and in the general population surveyed.

Regional and demographic analysis

Support for Castillo shows a consistent distribution throughout the national territory. In Greater Santo Domingo, he leads with 43.7%, followed by the South with 39.3%, the North region with 35.7%, and the East with 32.6%. Regarding age groups, the former official maintains balanced support, exceeding 40% among young people aged 18 to 29 and in the segment of those over 50 years old.

The survey was conducted by the firm Markestrategia, under the direction of statistician Guillermo Mateo. For this data collection, face-to-face interviews were carried out on October 2, 3, and 4, 2026. A sample of 1,200 people duly registered in the Central Electoral Board (JCE) registry was consulted, guaranteeing a confidence level of 95% and a margin of error of ±2.8 percentage points.
