Government to inject RD$2 billion into Dominican sports with recovered funds

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation (Miderec) has received a historic financial boost. The head of the ministry, Kelvin Cruz, announced that the Dominican Government will allocate RD$2 billion for the comprehensive strengthening of the national sports sector.

This significant budget allocation comes from resources recovered by the State following judicial processes related to acts of corruption from past administrations. The news was announced during a press conference led by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, who reaffirmed his commitment to the well-being of the youth and the athletic development of the country.

Investment priorities and scope

As detailed by Kelvin Cruz, these funds will be integrated directly into the Ministry of Sports’ budget with the strategic objective of addressing the most urgent needs and correcting the historical deficiencies that have limited the progress of various sports disciplines.

The allocation seeks to contribute to a more equitable distribution of resources destined for sports, as well as to improve support for the various disciplines and those who practice them.

  • Budgetary equity: Ensuring that resources reach all disciplines fairly.
  • Athlete support: Strengthening direct backing for athletes, who represent the engine of the country’s competitive development.
  • Addressing sector demands: Responding effectively to the concerns raised by the various actors in the sports community.

With this measure, the Government seeks to raise the standard of sports activities in the Dominican Republic, ensuring that sport becomes a tool for social cohesion and international success, taking advantage of resources that now return for the direct benefit of the nation.
