Tragedy in San Luis: Mechanic loses his life after tree collapse

A regrettable event shook the municipal district of San Luis, in Santo Domingo East, this Friday, when a heavy tree branch suddenly fell onto a mechanical workshop, claiming the life of a worker and leaving several citizens injured.

The fatal victim was identified as Rolfi Yoandi González Fabián, 35 years old, affectionately known in the community as “Andy.” The young man was performing his daily duties at the establishment, located behind the Viejo Ingenio Ozama, when the unexpected accident occurred.

Rescue and medical care efforts

Following the impact, emergency teams arrived immediately at the scene. The injured were rushed to the Dr. Ney Arias Lora Trauma Hospital, where they are receiving specialized care. So far, authorities have not disclosed the identities of the injured or an updated medical diagnosis regarding their health status.

For its part, the San Luis Fire Department carried out intense rescue and cleanup efforts, using specialized tools to section and remove the enormous branch that was obstructing the workshop area, thus ensuring the safety of the affected zone.

The San Luis community is plunged into dismay following the loss of an exemplary and hardworking young man like Andy, who was widely appreciated by all the neighbors in the area.

Call to environmental authorities

This incident has raised alarms among residents, who have formally requested the intervention of the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources. Community members are demanding a comprehensive assessment of the large trees in the area to identify potential risks and proceed with preventive pruning.

Citizens maintain that there are other tree specimens that, due to their age and condition, could pose an imminent danger to passersby and nearby homes. Local authorities have expressed their condolences to the family of González Fabián while investigations continue to clarify the causes that led to the collapse of the plant structure.
