Leones del Escogido strengthen their operational structure for the 2026-27 season
The current back-to-back champions of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), the Leones del Escogido, have made their revamped Baseball Operations Department official ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, which will raise the curtain on October 16. With this move, the scarlet organization seeks to maintain its hegemony in the winter circuit through a combination of continuity and new strategic pieces.
Carlos Peña remains at the helm of general management, marking his second consecutive year leading the club’s strategy. Alongside him, key figures such as Ángel “Aroboy” Santana and Joel Lithgow, director of the New York Yankees academy in the country, will continue to serve as special assistants to the manager, ensuring stability in decision-making.
News and promotions in the scarlet staff
The big news in the administrative office is the addition of Ricardo Garcia, administrator of the Cleveland Guardians academy, who joins as assistant general manager and administrative director. Garcia brings a relevant track record in the league following his time with the Estrellas Orientales.
The technical operations area has been strengthened with various promotions and new responsibilities:
- Eduardo Pérez: Director of Baseball Operations.
- Perry Husband: Director of Competitive Strategy.
- José Almonte: Director of Scouting.
- Manuel De Moya: Director of Analytics.
- Joan Rondón: Baseball Operations Coordinator.
- Mariana Patraca: Continuity in Administrative Operations.
The formation of this work team reaffirms Escogido’s focus on integrating experience, talent, and advanced analysis tools to support the organization’s sporting success.
The analytics department also adds young talent with Javier De los Santos as junior coordinator and Héctor Vilorio as assistant, while Aris Germán and Aimee Rivas assume key roles in travel logistics and player personnel, respectively.
Rookie Draft Focus
With the clear goal of defending their crown, the operations coaching staff is already immersed in planning for the upcoming LIDOM Rookie Draft. This event, fundamental to the team’s future, will take place on Wednesday, September 9th at 8:00 PM at Sambil, where the 18-time national champions will seek to acquire the necessary talent to remain protagonists in winter baseball.
