Justice in Azua: Man accused of abusing a minor sent to pretrial detention
The Permanent Attention Court of Azua ordered three months of preventive detention against Dalcio Nico Méndez Guerrero, who faces serious charges for sexual assault against a nine-year-old girl. The judicial decision responds to the formal request submitted by the Public Prosecutor’s Office following an exhaustive investigation.
The case came to public light after the victim’s father filed a formal complaint with the Gender and Domestic Violence Unit of the Azua Prosecutor’s Office. During the hearing, prosecutor Nelia Melo Mejía argued that the defendant lacks the necessary ties to guarantee his presence at trial, requesting the most severe coercive measure to ensure the course of the proceedings.
Case details
According to the investigation, the events took place on August 22nd. It is presumed that the aggressor took advantage of the trust placed in him by the family and the vulnerability of the minor, who was alone in the yard of her residence at the time she was attacked. Authorities confirmed that there are security camera records in the area that implicate the accused.
Evaluations carried out by professionals revealed that the victim had allegedly suffered previous assaults by the same individual, who supposedly threatened her with death to silence the events that occurred in the past year 2025.
Ongoing judicial process
Judge Dania Abreu, after evaluating the evidentiary elements presented by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, ordered Méndez Guerrero to serve the coercive measure at the public jail at kilometer 15 of Azua. The defendant must answer to justice for the alleged violation of provisions contained in the Dominican Penal Code and Law 136-03, which protects the fundamental rights of children and adolescents.
