Alias “Fugao” killed in confrontation with police in Pimentel
In an operation carried out by agents of the Central Directorate of Investigation (DICRIM) in the municipality of Pimentel, Duarte province, Joan Omar Leonardo Rodríguez, known in the criminal underworld as “Fugao,” was killed. The incident occurred this Friday morning during an alleged exchange of gunfire with the authorities.
According to official reports, Leonardo Rodríguez was actively sought for his direct link to the homicide of Jesús María Antonio Vargas Gómez, nicknamed “Suma,” in an incident recorded in Cotuí, Sánchez Ramírez province.
Case details
Preliminary investigations into the Vargas Gómez case indicate that the victim lost his life while attempting to defend one of his grandchildren, who was being robbed of his cell phone. The man received a gunshot wound that proved fatal when he intervened in the incident.
The authorities are keeping the investigations open to clarify the details of the confrontation and determine if there are other individuals linked to this criminal act that has shocked the community.
Following the operation in Pimentel, the body of “Fugao” was transferred to the corresponding agencies for legal purposes. It should be noted that, in connection with this same judicial process, authorities managed to capture Fernando José Cruz Mejía, alias “El Blate,” last Monday, who is also identified as one of the alleged individuals responsible for the murder of Vargas Gómez.
The National Police continues with intelligence efforts to completely dismantle the criminal structure involved in this case, ensuring that legal consequences will be applied to all those directly and indirectly responsible for the act.
