New RD$200 banknotes will enter circulation this September 21st
The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD) officially announced the release of the new RD$200 banknotes, which will have the year 2025 printed on them. This measure will take effect starting next Monday, September 21, as part of the entity’s strategy to ensure the necessary cash flow for commercial transactions in the country.
Characteristics and validity of the new issuance
The issuing entity highlighted that these specimens maintain the same security standards as previous series. Regarding their design, the images of the Mirabal sisters are preserved on the obverse, honoring these historical Dominican figures. The main distinction of this new batch is the inclusion of the legend “YEAR 2025” as an identifier of its date of issue.
It is important to highlight that the entry into circulation of these banknotes does not imply the withdrawal of those already in the hands of the public. In this regard, the Central Bank has clarified the following key points for the population:
- The new banknotes will coexist with the current RD$200 versions.
- Both versions retain full validity for making all types of payments.
- They have legal tender status, so they must be mandatorily accepted to settle public and private obligations.
The Central Bank reiterates that these banknotes are official payment instruments and must be accepted without restrictions throughout the national territory, just like any other denomination issued previously.
With this update, the BCRD ensures the supply of cash in the market, fulfilling its commitment to maintain an efficient and secure monetary circulation for all Dominicans.
