Donald Trump urges Zelensky to cease attacks on Russian refineries due to impact on diesel market
Former United States President Donald Trump revealed this Sunday that he held a direct conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with the goal of requesting that he stop military operations directed against oil refineries in Russian territory. According to Trump, these attacks are causing a worrying global shortage of diesel.
During statements made in Ireland, the former president emphasized that Ukraine should redirect its strategic objectives toward other infrastructure, avoiding the fuel industry at all costs. “Zelensky has to do one thing: stop hitting diesel fuel in Russia. Let him look for other targets, because this is causing a shortage that harms the world,” Trump noted.

Context of the Ukrainian attacks
This position arises following recent reports from Ukraine regarding a series of offensives carried out this Saturday against key facilities in the Russian regions of Perm, Samara, and Rostov. Among the targets hit are:
- Two chemical plants of strategic relevance.
- A factory specializing in drone production.
- An oil depot and radar stations.
- Pantsir-S2 type air defense systems.
One of the critical points mentioned by the Ukrainian military command is the plant located in Tolyatti, in the Samara region. This facility is fundamental for the production of synthetic rubber, an essential component used in the manufacturing of solid fuel for tactical and ballistic missiles. According to the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army, this type of attack seeks to diminish the Kremlin’s logistical and armament capacity.
For their part, Russian authorities reported that their air defense systems managed to neutralize nearly 230 Ukrainian drones. However, the clashes in at least three regions have left one person dead and several injured, maintaining tension in the conflict zone.
