Herb Jones Secures His Future with the Pelicans: Million-Dollar Extension

New Orleans Pelicans forward Herb Jones has agreed to a three-year, $68 million contract extension with the franchise. This was reported by Jones’ representatives, Mark Bartelstein and Kieran Piller of Priority Sports. With this renewal, Jones secures a total of five years and 97 million dollars with the Pelicans, including a player option for the 2029-30 season, as detailed by Bartelstein and Piller. At 26 years old, Jones has evolved from being a second-round pick in the 2021 NBA draft to becoming a fundamental pillar for the Pelicans. His outstanding performance earned him a spot on the All-Defensive First Team for the 2023-24 season. Furthermore, Jones has established himself as one of the eight players with 350 steals and 150 blocks since entering the league. According to GeniusIQ data, in the last two seasons, Jones has remained in the top 10 in defense against isolation plays, among players defending 150 or more of these plays. In the 2023-24 season, Jones also demonstrated his improved shooting, recording a 42% success rate on three-point shots, his personal best. It should be noted that, due to shoulder and labrum injuries, he only participated in 20 games last season, the fewest in his career.
