Connectivity and development: Los Hierros bridge inaugurated in Baní after decades of waiting
The Peravia province celebrates a significant milestone in its road infrastructure. President Luis Abinader led the official inauguration of the Los Hierros bridge in Baní this Saturday, a strategic project that puts an end to more than 40 years of waiting and promises to transform mobility throughout the southern region of the country.
During the event, the president emphasized that the historical dependence on a single bridge to connect Baní with the rest of the territory represented a latent risk to national security. With this new structure, added to the Baní Bypass and the Villagüera bridge, the Government seeks to strengthen the provincial road network.
The mere fact of having a single bridge connecting Baní and the entire South was a national security issue. Today, the province has four crossings that did not exist before.

Social and productive impact
The Los Hierros bridge, with a length of 87.73 meters, not only facilitates the movement of residents but also optimizes the transport of agricultural products, boosting the local economy. The project directly benefits communities such as Fundación, Río Arriba, El Recodo, La Gina, El Limonar, Sabana Larga, Arroyo Salado, Higuana, and Los Jovitos.
- Road safety: Includes signage, drainage, sidewalks, and erosion protection measures.
- Decongestion: Contributes to alleviating traffic in the urban area of Baní.
- Regional development: Facilitates access to basic services and national markets for producers in Baní.
New projects: The La Gina dam
In addition to the progress in road infrastructure, President Abinader highlighted that the Government maintains its focus on water security through the execution of the La Gina dam. This project is fundamental to guarantee the supply of drinking water in Baní and ensure the water resources necessary for the productive activity of the area, even in critical periods of drought.
For his part, the mayor of Baní, Santos Ramírez, thanked the Executive Branch for its response to the population’s historical demands. Ramírez highlighted that, in addition to the bridges, the current administration has positively impacted the province with key projects such as the UASD-Baní Center, the modernization of the Nuestra Señora de Regla hospital, and extensive paving plans.
With these actions, the Government reaffirms its commitment to the development of Peravia, a province with high productive potential that, according to the authorities present, is currently experiencing a turning point toward progress and modernization.
