Águilas Cibaeñas strengthen their infield with the arrival of Willy Vásquez
The Águilas Cibaeñas have made official the signing of versatile infielder Willy Vásquez, who joins the discipline of the team based at Estadio Cibao ahead of the 2026-2027 season of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM).
Vásquez, 25, a right-handed hitter, stands out for his defensive ability, being capable of reliably covering shortstop, second base, and third base. This versatility represents a valuable asset for the Eagles’ Baseball Operations department, which seeks to strengthen depth and tactical alternatives on the field.
Experience and background
The native baseball player from Santo Domingo has previous experience in the Dominican winter circuit, having been part of the Estrellas de Oriente during the 2023-24 and 2024-25 campaigns. His adaptation to the local league, added to his work ethic, are key points for his integration into the yellow team.
In United States baseball, Vásquez completed outstanding work during the current year within the Baltimore Orioles organization, alternating his participation between the Double-A and Triple-A levels:
- Double-A (Chesapeake Baysox): Played in 35 games, recording a .284 batting average with a .366 on-base percentage. He collected 30 hits, including four doubles and two home runs, while driving in 15 runs.
- Triple-A (Norfolk Tides): Participated in 46 games, hitting three home runs and stealing eight bases, while maintaining an offensive slash line of .227/.331/.348.
Vásquez’s arrival is part of the Águilas Cibaeñas’ strategy to consolidate a competitive roster, bringing rhythm, maturity, and defensive solidity to the infield from the start of the championship.
With this move, the Aguilas management continues to structure a balanced team, betting on youth and the experience accumulated by Vásquez both in international scenarios and in the demanding LIDOM.
