Caribes de Santo Domingo Norte take the lead in the 2026 Women’s TBS finals

The Caribes de Santo Domingo Norte took a firm step toward the title by defeating the Leñeras de Los Mina 73-69 in the first game of the final series of the 2026 Women’s Superior Basketball Tournament (TBS) of Santo Domingo. With this result, the northern team leads the series 1-0, which is a best-of-three series.

The triumph was possible thanks to a brilliant collective performance, led by their star reinforcements. Angie Hodge, a native of San Pedro de Macorís, became the star of the match by recording a double-double of 27 points and 12 rebounds. Joining her efforts was Yadira Polanco from Puerto Plata, who also shone with 24 points and 12 rebounds.

  • Noelia De la Rosa contributed eight points.
  • Koriel Encarnación added seven units.
  • Rudelfis De Jesús stood out in the paint with 15 rebounds.

For Los Mina’s Leñeras, Karla Aquino led the offense by scoring 34 points and grabbing six rebounds, while Yanelis Doñé contributed 18 units and 12 rebounds in a cause that proved insufficient to avoid the defeat.

The Caribes look to seal their championship in the next matchup, while the Leñeras will attempt to even the series to force a decisive game.

Tournament continuity

The final series takes place at the Virgilio Frías club sports center, located in Ensanche Isabelita, Santo Domingo East. The second match is scheduled for this Friday starting at 7:00 p.m.

The tournament, which features the participation of the Calero, Los Mina, Caribes, and Las Cotorras clubs, is dedicated to the Minister of Women, Gloria Reyes, and is competing for the Seaboard “Clean Energy” Cup. The organization of the event is led by the Organizing Committee, chaired by congresswoman Patricia Núñez, under the direction of William Cabral Lugo, president of the Basketball Association of the Santo Domingo Province (Abasado).
