Tigers Tie for Number of All-Stars and Dominate MLB
The Detroit Tigers, with the best record in the league, also match the Dodgers in the number of players selected for the All-Star Game. Zach McKinstry has been chosen to replace the Astros’ Jeremy Peña, who is recovering from a rib injury. McKinstry joins Gleyber Torres, Javier Báez, and Riley Greene, in addition to staff ace Tarik Skubal, as representatives of the Tigers in the All-Star Game. The Dodgers will also have five All-Stars, including Shohei Ohtani, Will Smith, Freddie Freeman, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Clayton Kershaw. The Cincinnati Reds pitcher, Andrew Abbott, will replace Yamamoto, who will not be able to play due to his schedule. Isaac Paredes, from the Astros, will take José Ramírez’s place on the American League team, while Joe Ryan will replace Hunter Brown as a pitcher. Trevor Megill, Brewers’ closer, joins the National League team in place of Freddy Peralta. These changes leave the Astros with four All-Stars, the Brewers with two, and the Twins with two.In other moves, Junior Caminero of the Rays replaces Alex Bregman of the Red Sox due to a quadriceps injury.“This was the goal in the offseason,” Megill said.
