Junior Caminero takes the lead in American League home runs and guides Tampa Bay to victory
Dominican talent in Major League Baseball continues to shine brightly. On this occasion, Junior Caminero became the star of the day by hitting his 39th home run of the season, a 455-foot blast that not only propelled Tampa Bay to a resounding 7-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves, but also positioned him as the absolute home run leader in the American League.
The Tampa Bay offense showed its power from the start. It was in the first inning when Caminero deciphered the pitches from starter A.J. Smith-Shawver, sending the ball into the left-field stands. The third baseman finished the day 3-for-2, with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, and two runs scored, thus surpassing the 38 home runs of Cuban Yordan Álvarez.
Offensive support and mound solidity
The Rays’ attack did not rely exclusively on Caminero. The offensive production was collective, highlighting the following contributions:
- Liam Hicks: Hit a two-run home run in the third inning.
- Yandy Díaz: Added a solo home run in the eighth inning.
- Richie Palacios: Contributed another solo home run in the ninth inning.
From the mound, Freddy Peralta was a key piece in securing the result. The right-handed pitcher completed six innings of work, allowing only one run, which allowed him to claim the victory and improve his record to 8-11. Historic day for Chandler Simpson
In addition to Caminero’s feat, the game left significant records. Chandler Simpson, in his return to Atlanta, reached the mark of 40 stolen bases for the season. With this achievement, Simpson joins a select historical list by becoming the first player since 1993 to record at least 40 stolen bases in each of his first two seasons in the Major Leagues.
For his part, fellow Dominican Víctor Mesa Jr. celebrated his 25th birthday with a productive 5-for-2 day, including an RBI and a stolen base, rounding out a perfect night for the Tampa Bay organization.
