Samuel Abreu projects Hipólito Mejía as a possible advisor for a Raquel Peña candidacy

The national coordinator of the External Sector with Raquel Peña, Samuel Abreu, analyzed the internal political landscape of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) and the role that former President Hipólito Mejía would play in the electoral future. According to Abreu, although the former president currently supports his daughter, the mayor of the National District Carolina Mejía, there is a high probability that he will end up joining as an advisor to a potential presidential campaign for the current vice president, Raquel Peña.

Hipólito is supporting his daughter, which is the right thing to do. He is a good colleague, just like all the pre-candidates. I am sure that along the way, Hipólito Mejía will be a campaign advisor for Raquel Peña.

Raquel Peña’s deployment

Regarding the vice president’s absence from campaign activities, Abreu clarified that her stance has been one of prudence and respect toward the figure of President Luis Abinader, as well as the regulations established by the Central Electoral Board and the internal guidelines of the PRM. Despite this pause, the leader confirmed that the political strategy has not stopped.

  • The External Sector is actively working on building a solid structure to boost Peña.
  • The vice president is expected to begin her tours and street activities in the coming days.
  • The prudence shown so far reinforces, according to the campaign team, her institutional profile.

Electoral growth potential

Abreu emphasized that Raquel Peña possesses the greatest room for growth within the ruling party. Contrasting her situation with that of other hopefuls, such as Tourism Minister David Collado, the leader argued that while others have been campaigning for years, the vice president has not yet begun her formal deployment, which gives her a strategic advantage.

“David has reached his peak,” Abreu stated, suggesting that the level of positioning of other pre-candidates has already hit its ceiling, while Peña’s project has fertile ground to expand. The leader concluded by reaffirming that the support team is working tirelessly to consolidate this proposal ahead of the upcoming electoral process.
