Authorities intensify search for driver after fatal accident in Brisas del Este

The National Police and the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett) are maintaining an active operation to locate the driver of the truck that caused the death of 10-year-old Maikel Isaac Encarnación Ogando in a tragic event that occurred in the Brisas del Este sector, Santo Domingo East.

The spokesperson for the law enforcement institution, Diego Pesqueira, confirmed that the heavy vehicle involved in the collision is already in police custody, after it was abandoned by the driver following the incident. Currently, investigators are conducting an exhaustive analysis of surveillance cameras in the area to determine the escape route and achieve the capture of the person responsible.

The accident took place last Friday afternoon while the minor was heading to his school on a scooter, which was being driven by his stepfather, Wilkin Medina Bernardo. According to Medina’s testimony, both were traveling correctly on the right side of the road when they were struck from behind by the truck.
