Caribes and Cotorras begin battle for a spot in the 2026 Women’s TBS final
The excitement of women’s superior basketball in Santo Domingo reaches its peak. The Caribes de Sabana Perdida and the Cotorras de Villa Duarte will face each other in an intense semifinal series, scheduled as a best-of-five, seeking the remaining spot to compete for the crown of the II Women’s Superior Basketball Tournament (TBS Femenino 2026).
The first matchup of this series is scheduled for this Friday at 7:00 PM at the Virgilio Frías club sports center, located in Ensanche Isabelita, Santo Domingo Este. The action will continue on Saturday with the second clash, scheduled for 4:30 PM.
The road to the semifinal
The Caribes reach this stage after an outstanding performance in the regular season, where they finished with a 5-1 record. Despite tying in record with the Leñeras de Los Mina, the tie-breaker criteria favored the latter, granting them a direct pass to the final. For their part, the Cotorras de Villa Duarte concluded the regular phase in third place with a 2-4 mark, now preparing to try to pull off an upset and reach the championship series.
The team that emerges victorious from this semifinal will face the Leñeras de Los Mina in the grand final, in a series that will be decided in a best-of-seven format.
Tournament details
The event, organized by the Santo Domingo Province Basketball Association (Abasado), presided over by William Cabral Lugo, is specially dedicated to the Minister of Women, Gloria Reyes. The competition, which is playing for the Seaboard “Clean Energy” Cup, is directed by the Organizing Committee headed by congresswoman Patricia Núñez.
Final matchday results
- Las Leñeras de Los Mina secured their spot in the final after defeating the Caribes 77-68, breaking the latter’s undefeated streak.
- Las Cotorras de Villa Duarte dominated Calero 89-51, a team that ended its participation in the regular round without a single win.
The closing day of the regular season featured the presence of prominent figures, including the ceremonial first pitch performed by deputies Patricia Núñez and Abelardo Rutinel, accompanied by Abasado executives and representatives of the participating clubs.
