Toros del Este bolster their rotation with the return of Aaron Sánchez and Carlos Rodríguez

With the goal of consolidating a dominant pitching structure from the start of the 2026-27 season, the Toros del Este have confirmed the return of two of their most valuable pieces on the mound: pitchers Aaron Sánchez and Carlos Rodríguez. Both hurlers will be integrated into the team from opening day, strengthening the aspirations of the La Romana franchise.

Sánchez: An elite arm

American Aaron Sánchez is coming off a historic performance in a Toros uniform. His performance last season allowed him to join the select group of franchise pitchers who have been awarded Pitcher of the Year in LIDOM, sharing this honor with figures such as Paolo Espino, Raúl Valdés, Robert Ellis, and Gibson Alba.

During his participation, Sánchez left impressive numbers in 46.1 innings of work:

  • 4-2 record.
  • 1.55 ERA (league leader).
  • 0.95 WHIP (league leader).
  • 34 strikeouts and only nine walks allowed.
  • Opponent batting average at .208.

The solidity of Carlos Rodríguez

For his part, Nicaraguan right-hander Carlos Rodríguez also added great depth to the starting rotation. In his four outings during the previous campaign, he demonstrated exceptional control, recording a 3.18 ERA and limiting opposing batters to an average of just .183. In 17 innings of work, he managed to strike out 17 batters, maintaining a 1.06 WHIP that solidified him as a highly reliable piece for the coaching staff.

We are excited about the return of two proven starters. Sánchez and Rodríguez are two pitchers who can be number one starters in any winter league rotation. We are building a rotation that gives us a trump card day in and day out from the start to keep us consistently in competition.

Jesús Mejía, general manager of the Toros del Este

A commitment to excellence

This commitment to stability is no coincidence. During the 2025-26 season, the Toros del Este stood out as the team with the best performance in starting pitching, achieving a collective ERA of 3.43, being the only team to keep their earned run average below 4.00, in addition to leading the circuit with 17 quality starts.
