United States debuts with authority in the Norceca Volleyball Qualifier
The United States women’s national volleyball team began its journey in the Norceca Qualifying Championship with a resounding victory. In the opening match held this Friday at the Ricardo Gioriber Arias Volleyball Palace, the American team defeated Trinidad and Tobago with a score of 3-0.
The dominance of the North American team was absolute throughout the entire match, reflected in partial scores of 25-6, 25-11, and 25-4, which evidenced the technical and physical superiority of the players on the Santo Domingo court.
Leadership in the offense
The United States’ offensive performance was led by middle blocker Asjia O’Neal, who became the standout player of the match by recording a total of 18 points. The offense was supported by Stephanie Samedy, with 14 units, and Dana Retke, who added nine points to the winning cause.
On the side of Trinidad and Tobago, the effort was limited against the rival pressure, with Thia Wilson standing out with four points and Sadie Torker with two goals.
In search of the World Cup and Olympic ticket
This tournament features the participation of eight national teams competing with the main objective of securing one of the three spots available for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship.
Beyond the World Cup appointment, the competition is a key link in the cycle towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. According to the regulations, the four best-positioned teams in the final table —excluding the United States due to its status as Olympic host— will earn their pass to the Norceca Continental Qualifier.
The final phase of this qualifying process will take place on August 28 and 29 at the same venue, where a direct spot for the most important multi-sport event in the world will be defined.
