Impact move: Leones del Escogido acquire Dinelson Lamet
The Leones del Escogido continue to move their strategic pieces ahead of the upcoming Lidom season. In a significant move for the pitching staff, the scarlet management announced the arrival of right-handed pitcher Dinelson Lamet, coming from the Águilas Cibaeñas, in a trade that sent left-handed reliever Génesis Cabrera to the Cibao squad.
Lamet, 34, a native of Santiago de los Caballeros, brings a wealth of experience accumulated over seven seasons in Major League Baseball. Throughout his career at the highest level, he has worn the uniforms of the San Diego Padres, Colorado Rockies, Boston Red Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers, recording a 4.63 ERA with 474 strikeouts in 367.2 innings of work.
His most recent performance was in the Mexican Baseball League with El Águila de Veracruz, where he demonstrated his dominance by recording 136 strikeouts in 137.1 innings and limiting his opponents to a .240 batting average.
With the acquisition of Lamet, we add an experienced pitcher with an impact arm and the ability to help us in different roles. Génesis is also an excellent pitcher whom we value highly, but we understood that this trade strengthens us and aligns with what we are looking to build on our team.
Carlos Peña, General Manager of the Leones del Escogido
A strengthened structure for the Lions
The Escogido Baseball Operations directive has maintained an aggressive agenda during the off-season, focused on deepening their native reserve and strengthening their core. Among the highlighted actions are:
- Retention of key players such as Erik González, Sócrates Brito, Franchy Cordero, José Marmolejos, Héctor Neris, and Jimmy Paredes.
- Strategic signings in free agency, including Michael De La Cruz, Radhamés Liz, Marco Hernández, and Iván Castillo.
- Acquisitions via trade of figures such as Vidal Bruján and, more recently, Dinelson Lamet.
With these additions, the 18-time national champions are preparing for the start of the 2026-27 tournament, scheduled for next October 16th. The red team will debut at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium facing the Tigres del Licey, in what promises to be a high-expectation start to the season for the scarlet fanbase.
