Weather conditions: High temperatures and little rain persist in the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has reported that atmospheric stability conditions will prevail across most of the national territory this Friday. The influence of an anticyclonic circulation continues to limit the formation of clouds with significant vertical development, resulting in a meteorological environment with little significant rainfall throughout most of the day.
Despite this dry outlook, meteorological authorities warn that, due to local effects and moisture transport by the east/southeast wind, local downpours and isolated thunderstorms could occur during the afternoon in specific parts of the country. The areas with the highest probability of experiencing these cloud increases include La Altagracia, Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, San Cristóbal, Barahona, San Juan, Santiago Rodríguez, Elías Piña, and the north of Greater Santo Domingo.
Recommendations for intense heat
The predominant factor for the day will be the persistent heat. Indomet forecasts maximum temperatures ranging between 31 °C and 35 °C, with a heat index that will feel even higher. Given this scenario, the institution has issued a series of recommendations to safeguard the population’s health:
- Maintain constant hydration through frequent water intake.
- Use light-colored, lightweight, and preferably loose-fitting clothing.
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight during the period of highest radiation, between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
- Prioritize staying in cool and well-ventilated places.
- Pay special attention to vulnerable groups, such as children, the elderly, and pregnant women.
Detailed forecast for Greater Santo Domingo
In Greater Santo Domingo, the weather will vary by municipality. For the National District, partly cloudy skies are expected at times, while in Santo Domingo Norte and Santo Domingo Oeste, cloud increases accompanied by afternoon showers and thunderstorms are forecast. Meanwhile, Santo Domingo Este will maintain mostly partly cloudy conditions. Temperatures in the capital will range from a minimum of 23 °C to 25 °C and a maximum of 31 °C to 33 °C.
Indomet maintains constant monitoring of atmospheric phenomena in the region. Currently, Hurricane Isaias is moving away from Dominican territory, located about 590 kilometers north of Progreso, Mexico, posing no danger to the Dominican Republic.
