James Wood Joins the Home Run Derby
The promising Washington Nationals hitter, James Wood, will showcase his power in the prestigious Home Run Derby, scheduled for July 14th in Atlanta. Wood becomes the third player confirmed for the event.
Wood, 22, has shown his ability to hit home runs in his first full season in the Major Leagues, accumulating 22 home runs in 86 games.
The Nationals acquired Wood in 2022 as part of the prospect package obtained in the trade that sent Juan Soto to the San Diego Padres.

The player announced his participation in the Home Run Derby via Instagram, sharing a video that included highlights of his career and fragments of the historic home run number 714 by Hank Aaron, a legend of the Atlanta Braves.
In addition to Wood, Cal Raleigh of the Seattle Mariners and Ronald Acuña Jr. of the Braves have also confirmed their participation in the event. Five places remain available to complete the list of participants.
Raleigh, who could become the first catcher to win the Derby, leads the Major Leagues with 33 home runs. Acuña, for his part, has nine home runs in 36 games after his return from a knee injury.
The current champion, Teoscar Hernández of the Los Angeles Dodgers, has confirmed that he will not defend his title.
