Frank Vogel Joins Mavericks as Lead Assistant

The Dallas Mavericks are close to finalizing a deal for Frank Vogel to join the team as a lead assistant coach, according to sources close to the situation. Dallas head coach Jason Kidd, who was an assistant on Vogel’s Lakers championship team in the 2019-20 season, recruited Vogel to serve as an advisor to the Mavericks last season. Vogel will replace Sean Sweeney, who joined the San Antonio Spurs. Vogel, 52 years old, was fired by the Phoenix Suns in May 2024 after a season with a 49-33 record. Previously, I had signed a five-year, $31 million contract with Phoenix in June 2023. In addition to the Lakers and the Suns, Vogel also coached the Orlando Magic (two seasons) and the Indiana Pacers (six seasons). He has a career record of 479-422.
