Dollar rate in the Dominican Republic: Closing of the day on August 21

The Central Bank of the Dominican Republic has released the official reference values for foreign currency exchange effective for this Friday, August 21. The fluctuation of the US dollar against the Dominican peso continues to be a key indicator for the local economy, showing variations in both the formal financial sector and the remittance market.

Behavior in financial institutions

At the end of the day, financial institutions recorded the dollar with a purchase rate of RD$57.17 and a sale rate of RD$59.71. These data reflect an appreciation of the local currency when compared to the records obtained exactly one month ago, when the rates stood at RD$57.28 for purchase and RD$60.04 for sale. This represents a strengthening of the Dominican peso of 0.18% in the purchase and 0.56% in the sale during the last monthly period.

Remittance and Exchange Agent Market

On the other hand, the Remittance and Exchange Agents sector maintained its operations with a tighter operating margin for the benefit of users. The closing quotes were as follows:

  • Purchase rate: RD$58.23 per dollar.
  • Selling rate: RD$59.31 per dollar.

When performing the monthly comparison in this sector, the Dominican peso showed a different trend than that of the general financial system, experiencing a slight depreciation of -0.11% in the purchase rate and -0.06% in the sale rate, compared to the figures from a month ago, which stood at RD$58.17 and RD$59.28, respectively.

Constant monitoring of these rates is essential for all economic sectors that interact with the US currency in the country, allowing for more precise financial planning for citizens and businesses.
