Antonio Marte proposes using pension funds to boost businesses and housing
Senator and president of the People First Party (PPG), Antonio Marte, has proposed a legislative initiative that seeks to transform the destination of pension funds in the Dominican Republic. From Puerto Plata, the legislator announced his intention to propose a legal reform that would allow these resources to be used to finance the creation of new businesses and housing projects, with the primary objective of stimulating the economy and generating more jobs.
Towards a revolution in the management of pension resources
Marte maintains that this model would allow workers themselves not only to be contributors to the system, but to become shareholders in the productive initiatives financed with their savings. According to the senator, this measure would represent a “great revolution” in the management of said resources, facilitating the accumulated capital to boost local development, especially in provinces like Puerto Plata, where there is a high demand for new job openings for both young people and adults.
The intention is to promote a scheme that contributes to the development of different communities and allows workers to improve their economic conditions and support other members of their families.

The legislative path and the development vision
Although the legislator has not yet detailed the financial mechanisms or the specific guarantees to protect workers’ savings, he emphasized that he will seek consensus among his colleagues in the Senate to promote the necessary legal modifications. The proposal contemplates that the funds could be allocated to:
- Creation of new industries and productive companies.
- Financing for housing construction.
- Development projects that promote employability at a national level.
Strengthening political structures in Puerto Plata
The announcement was made during a provincial assembly of the People First Party, where the organization’s municipal structures in the nine municipalities of Puerto Plata were sworn in. This event is part of the party’s roadmap ahead of the First National Congress Doctor José Francisco Peña Gómez, which will be held soon in Santo Domingo.
Marte took advantage of the meeting to highlight the sustained growth of his political organization, ensuring that the enthusiasm shown by the militancy in the “Bride of the Atlantic” reflects the strengthening of the PPG throughout the national territory.
The proposal to modify the current law to diversify the use of pension funds brings back into the public debate the importance of seeking investment alternatives that, in addition to guaranteeing retirement, contribute to the immediate economic well-being of the country.
