La Fuerza del Pueblo proposes improvements to the JCE for the ID renewal process

The People’s Force (FP) has presented to the Central Electoral Board (JCE) a series of strategic proposals aimed at optimizing the process of renewing the identity and electoral card. The main objective of the opposition organization is to ensure that this procedure is more agile, transparent, and accessible to all citizens, both within the national territory and abroad.

Manuel Crespo, the entity’s political delegate to the electoral body, was in charge of formally submitting the recommendations. According to what was stated, the group seeks to ensure that the Electoral Registry remains updated without citizens facing unnecessary administrative hurdles.

Special attention for vulnerable groups and Dominicans abroad

Among the key points, the Fuerza del Pueblo emphasized the need to implement extraordinary measures for Dominicans residing abroad. The proposal includes a comprehensive review of the current appointment system, in order to expand service capacity and eliminate the barriers that hinder obtaining the document outside the country.

That a special protocol with a calendar date be established to assist senior citizens and other citizens who present difficulties related to their Civil Registry, guaranteeing a clear institutional route with defined deadlines.

Technical proposals for the transparency of the Electoral Registry

  • Data reconciliation: It was proposed to establish mechanisms to resolve disparities between the ID card and the birth certificate, preventing registration errors from becoming insurmountable obstacles for the citizen.
  • Flexibility in polling station changes: The FP suggests reviewing the requirement for additional evidence when the change of polling station does not imply a modification in the area of residence or the voter’s identity.
  • Clarity on operational limits: The organization requested detailed information on the technical rules applied for the assignment of voters, specifically questioning the use of an operational limit of 550 voters versus the legal threshold of 600.

Towards a permanent dialogue with the JCE

Finally, Manuel Crespo proposed the creation of a constant dialogue table between political parties and the Central Electoral Board. This measure seeks to monitor the progress of the identity card issuance process continuously, ensuring that any incident is corrected in time to strengthen the organization of the electoral processes scheduled for the year 2028.
