Oportunidad 14-24 graduates more than 2,500 young people in a historic day
In an event that marks a milestone for Dominican youth, a total of 2,576 students successfully completed their technical training through the Oportunidad 14-24 program. The fifteenth Ordinary Graduation, held this Saturday, was attended by President Luis Abinader, First Lady Raquel Arbaje, and the coordinator of the Social Policy Cabinet, Geanilda Vásquez.
The graduates, coming from the Metropolitan and Eastern regions, celebrated this achievement as a decisive boost for their entry into the labor market and their professional growth. During the first semester of 2026, these young people trained in various technical areas designed to respond to the current demand of the productive sector.
Technical training for professional success
The program has managed to impact the lives of young people in 10 provinces and the National District, offering training in high-demand disciplines. Among the areas of study that stood out were:
- Hospitality and hotel reception
- IT and technical support
- Accounting and secretarial work
- Residential electricity and forklift operation
- Gastronomy, baking, and pastry making
- Beauty, hairdressing, and multimedia
- English and sales
A truly transformative social policy must be capable of converting protection into opportunity; opportunity into autonomy; and autonomy into social mobility.
Geanilda Vásquez, Coordinator of the Social Policy Cabinet
Scope and social commitment
With this recent graduation, the Oportunidad 14-24 program exceeds 35,000 graduates, totaling 69,000 beneficiaries since its implementation. The initiative is not limited to technical training, but also integrates the School Referral strategy in conjunction with the Ministry of Education.
This joint effort seeks to identify and reintegrate into the educational system young people who had abandoned their primary or secondary studies, offering them a second chance through programs like PREPARA. Currently, the project has 149 training centers distributed throughout the national territory, consolidating itself as a fundamental pillar for social mobility and the development of new generations in the Dominican Republic.
