Man who assaulted teenager with a machete captured in Navarrete
Agents of the Central Directorate of Investigation (DICRIM) managed to capture a man who was a fugitive after carrying out a violent assault in the city of Santiago. The individual was identified as the person responsible for robbing a minor of her cell phone by threatening her with a bladed weapon, an action that was captured in a video that circulated widely on digital platforms.
The detainee was identified as Ángel Luis Vargas, 42 years old. The arrest operation was carried out this Friday morning on Mella Street, located in the El Callejón de La Culebra sector, belonging to the municipality of Navarrete.
Case details and confession
Preliminary investigations by Alofoke Deportes indicate that the viral video clearly shows how the suspect intercepted the teenager to snatch an Itel brand mobile device. To achieve his goal, the subject used a machete to intimidate the victim.
After being interrogated by the authorities, Vargas allegedly admitted to having sold the stolen equipment for the sum of 750 Dominican pesos.
In light of this statement, the police force is keeping an investigation open to locate the buyer of the phone, with the goal of recovering the stolen item and determining if said person should face legal charges for receiving stolen property.
