Dominican government allocates more than RD$1 billion to subsidize fuels
The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM) announced a new state investment of RD$1,087.9 million aimed at mitigating the impact of the rise in international hydrocarbon prices. This measure reaffirms the authorities’ commitment to the economic stability of Dominican households through the Anti-Crisis Plan.
For the period from August 15 to 21, the Government has ordered a limited adjustment of RD$3.00 on gasoline and regular diesel. Despite this slight increase, prices remain below the levels recorded on June 13, when the 90-day price freeze program began. Meanwhile, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and natural gas will maintain their costs without variations.
The Government maintains its commitment not to exceed the set prices as long as oil remains below US$95, thus ensuring the sustainability of the Anti-Crisis Plan implemented for the benefit of the population.
Impact of the subsidy on the family economy
Volatility in international markets, exacerbated by geopolitical tensions, has caused a significant increase in refining margins, reaching 26% for gasoline and up to 64% for diesel. Given this scenario, the weekly subsidy represents direct relief for citizens’ pockets, with contributions reaching RD$86.89 per gallon for regular diesel and RD$33.36 for regular gasoline.
So far this year, the total amount allocated by the State to absorb these increases exceeds RD$26 billion, a figure that underscores the Government’s priority to contain inflation derived from energy costs.
