UASD graduates 716 new professionals in an emotional ceremony
The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) held its ordinary graduation ceremony, an event that brought together hundreds of graduates filled with satisfaction and enthusiasm for having completed their academic stage. The institution’s Aula Magna was the setting where 716 new professionals received their degrees, marking the beginning of a new stage in their personal and professional lives.
During the ceremony, the rector of the academy, Dr. Jorge Asjana David, together with the University Council, led the solemn act. In his speech, the rector highlighted that behind every diploma awarded there is a story of perseverance and family sacrifice. Likewise, he urged the graduates to become “restorers of sustainable development” for the Dominican Republic, recalling the nation’s historical legacy.

For the graduates, this day represents the reward for years of constant effort. Loamy Valdez, an Education graduate, shared her joy after overcoming various academic challenges: “It is an achievement obtained thanks to the Lord, my parents, and my husband. My purpose now is to give my best in the practice of my career,” she expressed.
Behind every degree there are years of study, sacrifices, and family efforts; but, above all, there is the conviction that knowledge constitutes one of the surest paths toward freedom, dignity, social mobility, and progress.

For her part, Marielba Candelario, who obtained her degree in Bioanalysis, described the path as challenging but rewarding, while Yalani Luciano, a graduate in Early Childhood Education, is already planning her next academic steps. Luciano expressed her intention to continue specializing by pursuing a master’s degree to strengthen her professional skills.
Academic distribution and legacy of the UASD
The graduation day stood out for the diversity of professional areas that are joining the labor market. The distribution of the new graduates by faculty was as follows:
- Educational Sciences: 326 professionals.
- Legal and Political Sciences: 106 professionals.
- Humanities: 101 professionals.
The UASD, founded in 1538, remains the oldest higher education institution on the continent. Throughout its nearly five centuries of history, the university has evolved from its original creation to consolidate itself as the main public and autonomous entity of the country, fulfilling a fundamental role in social mobility and the intellectual development of the Dominican Republic.
