The Queens of the Caribbean go for glory: NORCECA and the Los Angeles 2028 dream

The Dominican women’s national volleyball team, known worldwide as the Queens of the Caribbean, is preparing for a new high-level challenge on home soil. With the firm purpose of defending their title at the NORCECA Continental Championship and securing their qualification for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games, the tricolor team will once again meet their passionate fan base at the Ricardo Gioriber Arias Volleyball Palace.

The national team’s debut is scheduled for next August 21st at 8:00 PM, facing the Costa Rican representative. This event comes just thirteen days after our athletes shone at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games, where they took home the gold medal.

A demanding path to the Olympic appointment

The NORCECA Continental Championship, which will take place from August 21 to 29, will feature the participation of eight nations: Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Trinidad and Tobago, Canada, Mexico, and the United States. Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz, president of the National Teams Project, detailed that the tournament will be decisive for the Olympic cycle.

  • The top four teams will advance to a cross-semifinal stage.
  • The first place will face the fourth, while the second will face the third.
  • The winners of these duels will play the grand final on August 29, where the champion will obtain the direct ticket to Los Angeles 2028.

It is worth noting that the United States, as the host of the next Olympic Games, already has its spot secured, which opens up a historic opportunity for the rest of the delegations. The Dominican Republic aspires to achieve its fifth Olympic qualification, having been present in Athens 2004, London 2012, Tokyo 2020, and Paris 2024.

The Queens of the Caribbean are the Queens of the Ministry and of the entire country. We have spared no effort in supporting them because they are a country brand that fills every Dominican with pride.

Full support and defense of the crown

The event is supported by the Dominican Government, under the administration of President Luis Abinader and the Ministry of Sports. Both the authorities and the coaching staff, led by Marcos Kwiek, have called on the fans to fill the stands and turn the Volleyball Palace into a fortress.

The Queens of the Caribbean arrive as the reigning monarchs, following their epic victory in 2023 against the United States. With four continental titles to their name (2009, 2019, 2021, and 2023), the team seeks to consolidate its regional hegemony. Tickets to follow this historic contest closely are now available through the Uepa Tickets platform.
