Sam Merrill Secures His Future with the Cavaliers: Signs for 38 Million

Free agent guard Sam Merrill has decided to sign a four-year, $38 million contract to continue his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to sources close to the situation. The Cavaliers managed to negotiate this new deal with Kieran Piller and Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, a significant achievement for the player selected 60th in the 2020 NBA draft. This agreement solidifies the Cavaliers’ position regarding the depth of their guards, with Darius Garland, Lonzo Ball, and Merrill himself on the roster. The team is expected to lose free agent Ty Jerome in this free agency. Merrill, 29, was one of the key players who contributed to the Cavaliers becoming one of the teams with the best three-point shooting percentage in the league last season. He had a 37.2% success rate on three-pointers, with 5.2 attempts per game, after exceeding 40% in the 2023-24 season. Merrill, who played a total of 71 games last season, joined the Cavaliers on a 10-day contract in 2023, which quickly turned into a multi-year guaranteed deal that expired this summer.
