Barry Bonds will be honored with a statue at the Giants’ stadium
The legendary baseball player Barry Bonds will be immortalized with a statue in front of the San Francisco Giants stadium, where he set the MLB’s all-time home run record. This was announced by the team’s CEO on Thursday. Larry Baer, Giants president and CEO, revealed this news during a radio interview. Although he did not provide specific details about the date or location, he confirmed that the project is underway.Bonds played 15 of his 22 seasons in Major League Baseball with San Francisco, hitting 586 of his 762 home runs with the Giants between 1993 and 2007. In 2001, he set the MLB record with 73 home runs in a single season. In addition, on August 7, 2007, he hit his 756th home run, surpassing Hank Aaron in a home game against Washington. Currently, Oracle Park has statues of five Hall of Fame members: Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Juan Marichal, Gaylord Perry, and Orlando Cepeda. The Giants retired Bonds’ number 25 in 2018. Bonds, a seven-time MVP and 14-time All-Star, is not in the Hall of Fame. He failed to reach the required 75% threshold during his 10 years on the Baseball Writers’ Association of America ballot, primarily due to steroid accusations that haunted him during his final years with the Giants.“Barry certainly deserves a statue, and I would say he should be next,” Baer stated on 95.7 The Game in San Francisco. “We don’t have the exact location, the exact date, or the exact moment… But it’s on its way. All I can say is that it’s on its way.”
