Daniel Gafford and Mavericks: Million-Dollar Extension on the Horizon

Dallas Mavericks center Daniel Gafford is expected to sign a three-year contract extension that could be worth around $60 million. The news, which has generated great anticipation, comes after intense negotiations between the Mavericks’ management and Gafford’s agents, Mike George and Shy Saee of Klutch Sports.

Gafford, who will turn 27 in October, will earn around 14 million dollars next year before the extension comes into effect. This agreement ensures the player’s permanence in the team, thus consolidating the Mavericks’ sports project.

Gafford’s arrival at the Mavericks happened two seasons ago, coming from the Washington Wizards, in a key move that propelled the team towards the NBA Finals. Since then, the roster has undergone significant changes, but Gafford has remained a fundamental piece in the offensive zone.

Currently, Gafford is part of a talented frontcourt, where he shares roles with players like Dereck Lively II, Anthony Davis, and the promising Cooper Flagg, who is shaping up to be the first pick in the next draft.

Gafford stands out for his ability to finish plays near the rim and his effectiveness in shooting. His career field goal percentage of 71% is the best in the NBA since he entered the league in the 2019-2020 season, with a minimum of 1,000 attempts. In addition, he offers a solid defensive presence, ranking among the top 10 in terms of field goal percentage allowed as a contesting defender last season, with a minimum of 800 shots contested.
