SEATTLE – The Houston Astros are facing significant challenges following the recent injuries of two of their key players.
Dominican shortstop Jeremy Peña was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a Grade 1 right hamstring strain. On the other hand, Japanese pitcher Tatsuya Imai was added to the 15-day disabled list due to arm fatigue.
Peña, who was forced to leave Saturday’s game in the fourth inning due to knee discomfort, was unable to participate in Sunday’s game. His season has been marked by physical problems, including a fracture in the right ring finger suffered during preparation for the World Baseball Classic.
Regarding Imai, his most recent performance showed difficulties, allowing three runs and giving up four walks in his last start. This reflects control issues, with only 54% strikes in his first three appearances in the Major Leagues.
Given these absences, the team has made adjustments to its roster. Pitcher Jayden Murray was sent to Triple-A Sugar Land, while J. P. France and Colton Gordon, along with infielder Shay Whitcomb, were called up.
The situation is complicated for Houston’s pitching staff, as Hunter Brown and Cristian Javier are also on the injured list with shoulder strains.
These injuries represent a hard blow for the Astros at the beginning of the season, forcing them to readjust their rotation and the depth of their roster while they seek to maintain their competitiveness.
