Resounding Success at the Gran Fondo Cycling Challenge RD 2026

La Vega, Dominican Republic – The Gran Fondo Cycling Challenge RD 2026 celebrated its fourth edition with a massive participation of national and international cyclists, establishing itself as a benchmark event in Dominican road cycling. More than three hundred cyclists gathered in this competition that toured various cities in the Cibao, offering a challenge marked by rain, mountainous landscapes and the spirit of camaraderie among the participants. A key factor of this edition was its international character, with 30% of the participants coming from Chile, Argentina, the United States, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. The start and finish took place at the Temple of Fame of the Vegan Athlete, in La Vega. From there, the peloton faced a route that, despite the adverse weather conditions, demonstrated the passion and endurance of the cyclists. The route took the competitors through Bonao, Maimón and Cotuí, highlighting the passage through the Hatillo dam, an emblematic point that offered impressive views. One of the hydration points was located in Fantino before starting the return to La Vega to complete the route.

Each edition confirms that road cycling in the Dominican Republic continues to grow. This event not only promotes the sport, but also allows us to showcase the beauty of our roads and landscapes to the world. Seeing cyclists from different countries riding together through the Cibao is a great satisfaction and motivates us to continue strengthening this project.

The event was supported by the General Directorate of Traffic and Ground Transportation Safety (Digesett), the Central Directorate of the Tourism Police (Politur), the Senate of the Republic, the Ministry of Sports (Miderec), the Ministry of Youth, the Ministry of Women, as well as the municipalities of La Vega, Cotuí and Fantino, Basílica Management, Vagy Rejuvenation and CheckPoint. The Gran Fondo Cycling Challenge RD 2026 established itself as a sporting and tourist experience that connects cities, promotes cycling, and highlights the landscapes of the Cibao, positioning the country as an attractive destination for this type of activity.
