Geno Stone Bolsters Bills’ Defense
The Buffalo Bills have reached a one-year agreement with safety Geno Stone, sources confirmed this Friday.
This addition further strengthens the Bills’ defense, following the recent signing of veteran C.J. Gardner-Johnson to a one-year contract.
The Bills haven’t re-signed any of their free agent safeties, including Jordan Poyer, Damar Hamlin, and Darnell Savage. Taylor Rapp, who started in Week 1 of last season, was cut in a move to save cap space.
Stone, 26, arrives at the Bills after two seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. Last season, Stone achieved a personal best of 104 tackles, ranking third on the team.
Originally, Stone signed a two-year contract with an annual value of $7 million. However, the contract was restructured to reduce his salary by $1.5 million.
In his time with the Bengals, Stone had a season of ups and downs. Although the Bengals’ defense struggled, Stone contributed to the team’s improvement in the last eight weeks of the season.
Stone, selected in the seventh round of the 2020 draft by the Baltimore Ravens, has accumulated 312 tackles and 14 interceptions in six seasons in the NFL.
