Verlander Returns to Action with the Giants
San Francisco, the Giants welcomed Justin Verlander back this Wednesday night, after the right-handed pitcher had been out of action for a month due to right pectoral discomfort.
The 42-year-old veteran was scheduled to start against Cleveland, seeking his first win in his eleventh start with the Giants. Verlander was activated from the 15-day injured list.
In addition, catcher Patrick Bailey was also reinstated from the 10-day injured list. On the other hand, right-handed pitcher Tristan Beck and catcher Logan Porter were sent to Triple-A Sacramento.
Bailey, 26, returns after a neck strain.
Verlander signed a one-year, $15 million contract with San Francisco in January. Affected by the lack of offensive support, he was 0-3 with a 4.33 ERA in his first 10 starts with his new team.
The addition of Rafael Devers, acquired in a major trade with Boston on Sunday, could benefit the nine-time All-Star.
Verlander’s 24 wins against Cleveland tie his most against any team.
