SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – Yadier Molina, the emblematic figure of Puerto Rican baseball, returns to manage the national team in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. The official announcement was made this Wednesday, confirming the continuity of the experienced manager at the head of the team.

This will be the second consecutive time that Molina, recognized for his outstanding career as a catcher in Major League Baseball, will lead the Puerto Rican squad. In the 2023 edition, Molina guided the team to the quarterfinals, demonstrating his leadership and strategic ability.

Molina’s career as a player is impressive, with 10 All-Star Game appearances and two World Series titles. His reputation as one of the best defensive catchers of all time solidifies him as a key figure in baseball.

In addition to his role as manager, Molina had an outstanding participation as a player in the first five editions of the World Baseball Classic. He was runner-up in 2013 and 2017, demonstrating his commitment and passion for Puerto Rican baseball.

The 2026 World Baseball Classic will begin on March 5th. Puerto Rico, currently ranked ninth in the world, will debut on March 6th against Canada, as part of Group A.

The Group A also includes Colombia, Cuba, and Panama. All matches in this group will be held at the Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, which represents an advantage for the home team.

Francisco Lindor, Mets shortstop, will repeat as captain of the team, bringing his experience and leadership to the team.

With Molina’s experience, Lindor’s leadership, and the support of their fans, Puerto Rico prepares to seek the coveted world title in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
