Anthony Joshua breaks silence after tragedy in Nigeria

The renowned boxer Anthony Joshua has shared his first words publicly after the tragic car accident that occurred in December in Nigeria, where two of his friends lost their lives. The incident, which took place on December 29 near Lagos, Nigeria, claimed the lives of Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, who were close to Joshua. Through a moving video posted on YouTube, the former heavyweight champion addressed the issue, revealing the personal impact of the loss.

“The last time I spoke with you was in Miami. We had many plans to close out 2025, and we were on a mission,” commented Joshua.

Joshua continued expressing his pain and reflecting on what happened. “We went back home, went to see our families, and everything was turned upside down. God is the best planner. We can plan as best as we can, but that was an unforeseen circumstance that was out of our control.” In the video, Joshua was visibly affected when talking about his friends. “It’s a shame. It’s a shame… So, there’s that side of things. What can I say?” said an excited Joshua. “My time will come one day, and I’m not afraid… Not at all. Actually, it’s comforting to have two brothers on the other side. I’ve lost people before, but I don’t think I’ve lost people like that… My left and my right, you know?” Joshua thanked everyone for their messages of support and promised to honor his friends’ dreams. “My goal is to continue helping them achieve their goals. Although they are not here physically, when I pray, I know that they will help me spiritually. It’s not just physical strength that will help me overcome this; it will take a lot.” “Much strength from a higher power, so I will definitely pray and I will help them fulfill their dreams for their families.” “Not just me, there’s a whole team of us… A whole brotherhood, a whole brotherhood that will help fulfill his legacy and his dreams.” “I don’t think I’ve mentioned love and appreciation. Everything is recognized by me, by them, by their families. We recognize the thousands, maybe millions, around the world who showed them both so much love.”
