Venezuela Bolsters its Roster for the 2026 World Baseball Classic

The Venezuelan baseball team is shaping up to be a strong contender for the 2026 World Baseball Classic, after confirming the incorporation of outstanding players to the national team. Among the new additions, Ronald Acuña Jr., Maikel García, Jackson Chourio, and Wilyer Abreu stand out, who will join the roster led by captain Salvador Pérez. This announcement significantly strengthens the Venezuelan team, which seeks to surpass its performance in the 2023 edition, where it reached the quarterfinals. Venezuela’s debut in the tournament is scheduled for March 6, facing the Netherlands in Group D, at loanDepot park in Miami.

Key Figures in the Venezuelan Team

Ronald Acuña Jr. will participate in the World Baseball Classic for the second time. After recovering from an injury, the star outfielder demonstrated his ability with an OPS of .935, 21 home runs, and nine stolen bases last season. Maikel García will debut in the tournament, after a standout season with the Kansas City Royals, which earned him a contract extension. Jackson Chourio, one of baseball’s young prospects, arrives after demonstrating his talent with the Milwaukee Brewers. Wilyer Abreu, established as a high-performing outfielder with the Boston Red Sox, also joins the team. With these additions, Venezuela aims to compete for the title of the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
