Santo Domingo.- Dominican President Luis Abinader received the players of the Leones del Escogido this Thursday, who were crowned champions of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League.The president urged the athletes to compete with “patriotism” in the upcoming Caribbean Series, which will take place from February 1 to 7 in Jalisco, Mexico.During the match, the president presented the national flag to the directors and players of the red team, who achieved their 18th title in the league.
A Celebrated Two-Time Championship
The Head of State highlighted the “pride” that the two-time championship represents and motivated the team to demonstrate discipline, dedication, and patriotic commitment in Mexico.Abinader praised the quality of the team and its reinforcements, expressing his confidence that they will maintain the level that allowed them to win the LIDOM, with the goal of obtaining the Caribbean Series again for the Dominican Republic.Likewise, the president gave special recognition to relief pitcher Jeffry Yan, ‘La Sentencia’, encouraging him to impose his dominance from the mound.The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kelvin Cruz, also participated in the celebration, highlighting President Abinader’s support for baseball as a symbol of national pride.Cruz recognized the joint work of the institutions that strengthen the professional tournament and congratulated the directors, coaching staff and players of the Leones del Escogido.Eduardo Najri, president of the Leones del Escogido, pointed out that the current government period has coincided with a stage of success for the franchise.Among the players present at the event were Junior Lake and Sócrates Brito, outfielders; Alcides Escobar, third baseman and Most Valuable Player of the final series; and pitcher Henry Sosa.The Leones del Escogido secured the championship after defeating the Toros del Este in five games.The president valued the team’s talent and especially encouraged relief pitcher Jeffry Yan, known as ‘La Sentencia’, to impose his dominance from the mound in Mexico.
