Abinader Receives Escogido Lions After Winning the LIDOM Championship
Santo Domingo – President Luis Abinader received the Leones del Escogido at the National Palace this Thursday, after the team was crowned champion of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM).
The team’s visit to the Government House had as its main objective the presentation of the trophy obtained in the Dominican championship. The event was full of emotion and pride, in anticipation of the Leones’ participation in the 2026 Caribbean Series, which will be held in Jalisco, Mexico.
During the meeting, President Abinader expressed his congratulations to the board, the coaching staff, and the players. He highlighted the importance of the team representing the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean tournament.
Abinader joined the celebration wearing the scarlet jersey and encouraging the players to maintain the same level of commitment demonstrated in the local tournament. He assured that they now have the support of the entire nation.
As part of the ceremony, the president officially presented the National Flag to the team representatives. This gesture symbolizes the patriotic commitment with which the Lions will travel to Mexico. Abinader reiterated his confidence that the team has the ability to bring a new Caribbean crown to the country.
In the activity, President Abinader was accompanied by key figures such as the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, Andrés Bautista; the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz; the president of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), Vitelio Mejía; the president of the Leones del Escogido team, Eduardo Najri; the director of the team, José Miguel Bonetti; and Leonardo Aguilera, executive president of Banco de Reservas, among other authorities and representatives of the sports sector.
