Ferrari unveils its new SF-26 single-seater for the 2026 Formula 1 season

The Ferrari team has presented its new SF-26 single-seater at the Fiorano circuit in Modena. This vehicle will mark the beginning of a new era for the Italian team in Formula 1, with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc at the wheel. The SF-26, number 72 in Ferrari’s history, is the second project under the direction of French engineer Loïc Serra, who joined the team from Mercedes. The 2026 season will be marked by the implementation of new technical and sporting regulations.

“We dedicated a lot of time to the conception phase to adapt as best as possible to the new regulatory and technical framework. Furthermore, it was essential that the car’s architecture offered enough room for evolution throughout the season,” explained Serra.

A renewed design and significant changes

The SF-26 stands out for its return to glossy paint, after seven seasons with a matte finish. The traditional Ferrari red now looks more intense, accompanied by white and blue details. The 2026 regulations introduce profound modifications, including a lighter overall design. The chassis abandons the ground effect concept, opting for a different aerodynamic approach, with cleaner lines and focused on weight reduction and increased efficiency. The power unit has also been adjusted. It is a new hybrid generation, where the electrical system plays a more relevant role, which demanded a closer integration between the chassis and the engine.

Pilots’ Statements

Charles Leclerc, in his eighth season with Ferrari, highlighted the demands of the new 2026 rules, which require thorough preparation.

“There are many new systems to understand and optimize. We know from experience how complex a regulatory change can be, but we will get to the track with the best possible preparation,” assured the Monegasque.

Leclerc also underlined the importance of energy management and the behavior of the power unit. Lewis Hamilton described the change as the biggest regulatory challenge he has faced in his career, highlighting the key role of the driver in energy management and the development of the single-seater.

The beginning of a new stage

Frédéric Vasseur, team principal, defined the SF-26 as the result of a huge collective effort and the starting point of a completely new stage.

“It’s the beginning of an adventure under different rules, which inevitably bring uncertainties, but also great opportunities,” he pointed out.

Hamilton and Leclerc had a first contact with the SF-26 at Fiorano, although the weather conditions limited the filming. Ferrari will continue its testing program between January 26 and 30 in Barcelona, while the official pre-season tests will be held in Bahrain from the 11th to the 13th and from the 18th to the 20th of February. The championship will start on the weekend of March 6 to 8, with the Australian Grand Prix.
