John Harbaugh, New Head Coach of the New York Giants

The New York Giants have officially announced the hiring of John Harbaugh as their new head coach. The agreement is for five years and represents an ambitious bet by the franchise to begin a new stage of reconstruction in the NFL.

Harbaugh, 63 years old, has signed a contract that places him among the highest-paid coaches in the league, with earnings close to $20 million per season, according to reports.

The arrival of Harbaugh comes after one of the worst recent seasons for the Giants. Following the firing of Brian Daboll in November, the team finished the 2025 regular season with a 4-13 record, under the interim direction of offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.

Since Tom Coughlin’s departure in 2015, New York has experienced instability at the head coaching position, with Ben McAdoo, Pat Shurmur, Joe Judge, and Daboll at the helm without managing to establish a winning project.

Harbaugh arrives in New York after 18 seasons as coach of the Baltimore Ravens (2008-2025). During that time, he won Super Bowl XLVII, two American Conference titles, six divisional championships, and was named NFL Coach of the Year in 2019.

His overall record as a coach is 193 wins and 124 losses, including 13-11 in playoffs, which places him among the 12 coaches with the most wins in league history.

Harbaugh was fired by the Ravens on January 7, after a 2025 season in which the team finished with an 8-9 record and was left out of the playoffs. His availability made him one of the most sought-after coaches on the market.

Although he had scheduled interviews with teams like Tennessee, Atlanta, and Miami, the Giants acted quickly and closed the deal before he could consider other offers.

Founded in 1925, the Giants are one of the most historic franchises in the NFL, with four Super Bowl titles, the most recent in 2011. Harbaugh’s mission will be to restore the team’s competitive identity and make it a contender for the Lombardi trophy again.
