Lane Hutson Wins the Calder Trophy
Montreal Canadiens defenseman Lane Hutson has been awarded the prestigious Calder Memorial Trophy.
This recognition is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in their debut season in the National Hockey League (NHL). The winner is chosen by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association.
Hutson received a total of 165 first-place votes out of a possible 191, accumulating 1,832 points, far surpassing Dustin Wolf, goaltender for the Calgary Flames, and Macklin Celebrini, center for the San Jose Sharks.

The 21-year-old player received the trophy at a surprise celebration organized by his family to commemorate his nomination as a finalist.
Hutson led all rookies with 66 points and his 60 assists tied the NHL record for a rookie defenseman, shared with Larry Murphy.
Celebrini, 18 years old, participated in 70 games and scored 25 goals, ranking second among rookies, behind Matvei Michkov of the Philadelphia Flyers, and tied with Michkov for second place with 63 points.
Wolf, 24, had a 29-16-8 record with a 2.64 goals-against average, a .910 save percentage and three shutouts for the Flames, who selected him in the seventh round of the 2019 draft.
