Leones del Escogido close to the final: González and De la Cruz lead victory

Santo Domingo – Erick González and Michael de la Cruz led the offense for the Leones del Escogido in their 7-2 victory over the Toros del Este, in a game corresponding to the twelfth day of the Round Robin of the 2025-26 LIDOM championship, held this Sunday at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium. González stood out with a three-pointer and a single, while De la Cruz drove in two runs with a hit, guiding the current national and Caribbean champions. With this victory, the Lions put their record at 10-3 and reduced their magic number to two to secure their place in the Final Series.

The Leones maintain a three-game lead over the Toros del Este and the Águilas Cibaeñas, both with a 7-6 record, with five games remaining to conclude the semifinal phase. The Toros del Este are going through a negative streak of five consecutive losses. El Escogido is approaching its 30th Final Series with the aim of achieving the two-time championship, a feat they haven’t achieved since the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons.

Pitching Work

Yefry Yan (1-0) earned the victory by pitching the sixth inning, allowing one hit and striking out one batter. Anderson Severino (1-1) took the loss, failing to record outs in the sixth inning after allowing two hits and three earned runs. In relief, Brian Moran worked 2.2 innings allowing one earned run and three hits, while Grant Gavin completed 3.1 innings, allowing two runs.
