Trae Young joins the Washington Wizards
The talented NBA point guard, Trae Young, was officially introduced as a new player for the Washington Wizards, marking the beginning of a new stage in his career after eight seasons with the Atlanta Hawks. The four-time All-Star expressed his enthusiasm for this change through his social media. At 27 years old, the dynamic point guard leaves behind a significant stage in Atlanta, the franchise that selected him in the fifth position of the 2018 Draft. During his time with the Hawks, Young played 493 games, all as a starter, and established himself as one of the most productive players in the league. In seven full seasons with Atlanta, the point guard averaged 25.3 points, 9.8 assists, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.0 steals per game. However, in the current season, he was limited by a sprain in his right knee and a quadriceps contusion, which reduced his participation. Young’s greatest collective achievement with the Hawks came in the 2020-21 season, when the team reached the Eastern Conference Finals, where they fell to the Milwaukee Bucks. Despite this, Atlanta missed the playoffs in four campaigns and was eliminated in the first round in two others.I enter this new chapter euphorically, with my head held high and my gaze forward. It’s time to see what’s possible when the support is real and the vision is clear. We continue.

Young arrives at a Wizards team that currently occupies the penultimate place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 10-26, while Atlanta, his former team, is ninth with a record of 18-21. As part of the exchange, Washington sent forward Corey Kispert and guard CJ McCollum to Atlanta, reinforcing the move that changes the course of both franchises. On an individual level, Young has had historic campaigns. In the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, he averaged over 25 points and 10 assists, a consecutive feat only achieved by Nikola Jokic, Russell Westbrook, and Oscar Robertson. Furthermore, in the 2021-22 season, he led the NBA in both points and assists, joining Nate Archibald as the only players to achieve this in the same campaign. Now, Trae Young will seek to lead a new project in Washington, determined to write a new chapter of success in his NBA career. The last few years weren’t how I wanted them to be. My goal was always to bring a championship to Atlanta, but between injuries and unforeseen circumstances, we never managed to show our full potential.
