Manchester United Seeks Temporary Replacement Following Amorim’s Departure
Manchester United are leaning towards appointing an interim coach to replace Ruben Amorim until the end of the season, before making a permanent appointment in the summer. This is revealed by sources close to the club.
Darren Fletcher, currently coach of the under-18 team, will lead the team against Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday.
The former United and Scotland national team footballer could also remain in charge for the FA Cup third-round match against Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Sources indicate that the club is exploring options that would allow it to make a temporary appointment until the end of the season.
Although a final decision has not yet been made, there is a feeling that this would give more time to search for Amorim’s permanent successor.Darren Fletcher, former Manchester United player and under-18 coach, will lead the first team against Burnley on Wednesday.
The Portuguese coach was sacked on Monday after 14 months in charge.
According to sources, United is interested in considering coaches with Premier League experience for their permanent appointment.
Among the names under consideration are Thomas Tuchel, Oliver Glasner, Mauricio Pochettino, and Andoni Iraola.
Glasner, who won the FA Cup with Crystal Palace last season, could be an attractive option as his contract at Selhurst Park is due to expire at the end of the season.
Tuchel, who has a contract to coach until after the World Cup, was a candidate to take over at Old Trafford when Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the board considered firing Erik ten Hag in the summer of 2024.
The Dutchman finally stayed until November before being replaced by Amorim.
Tuchel, who had a successful spell at Chelsea, where he won the Champions League, might need to be convinced to join United.
Sources have indicated that the German was not impressed with the interview process with Ratcliffe when he initially showed interest in the position.
