John Cena Says Goodbye at Survivor Series: WarGames

The legendary John Cena marks another milestone in his WWE career with his latest appearance at a premium live event (PLE), at Survivor Series: WarGames from Petco Park in San Diego. Survivor Series, WWE’s second longest-running event, returns for the 39th time, in a city that hasn’t hosted a PLE since 2008.

A Legends Scenario

Survivor Series has witnessed the rise of iconic careers, including the debut of The Undertaker in 1990, who became the most successful wrestler in the event’s history with 13 victories. Superstars like The Rock (1996), Kurt Angle (1999), The Shield (2012), and Sting (2014) also made their PLE debuts at this event. Even the Elimination Chamber match format debuted at Survivor Series in 2002. This year, as in 2022, the event will feature WarGames matches for both women and men, with stellar teams of five wrestlers each.

Star Battles

Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, Jey Uso, Jimmy Uso, and Roman Reigns will join forces to face Bronson Reed, Bron Breakker, Logan Paul, Drew McIntyre, and Brock Lesnar in the men’s match. Meanwhile, Rhea Ripley, Iyo Sky, Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair, and AJ Lee will face Nia Jax, Lash Legend, Kairi Sane, Asuka, and Becky Lynch in the women’s match. In addition, the Intercontinental Championship will be contested, with John Cena defending his title against Dominik Mysterio, and the Women’s World Championship, with Stephanie Vaquer facing Nikki Bella.

Key Combat Data

Men’s WarGames Match

A victory for Roman Reigns would place him second on the Survivor Series win list, tying with Randy Orton with 10. Reigns seeks his seventh consecutive Survivor Series victory, as he hasn’t lost at the event since 2016. If the men’s match closes the event, history favors Reigns’ team, as he has never lost a main event match at Survivor Series (5-0). Logan Paul and Brock Lesnar are the only participants who have never participated in a WarGames match. Jey Uso is the wrestler with the most experience in WarGames, having participated in three matches (2022, 2023, and 2024), and remains undefeated in this format. Drew McIntyre seeks to avoid his sixth consecutive loss at Survivor Series. His last victory was in 2018.

Women’s WarGames Match

Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky are the only participants in this match who competed in the first women’s WarGames match at NXT TakeOver: WarGames in 2019. Sky has participated in all seven women’s WarGames matches, being the only woman to achieve this. Ripley, Charlotte Flair, and Nia Jax each have four victories at Survivor Series. Whoever achieves another victory will tie Mickie James and Bianca Belair at the top of the women’s division. Becky Lynch seeks her fourth consecutive victory at Survivor Series. Her last two victories have been in WarGames matches (2022, 2023).

Intercontinental Championship: John Cena vs. Dominik Mysterio

Paul Heyman: Expect John Cena’s best performance at Survivor Series

The Intercontinental Championship has not changed hands at Survivor Series since 2001. The title has been successfully defended on six occasions, including last year. This will be Cena’s first match at Survivor Series in eight years. His last appearance was in 2017 as part of Team SmackDown. Mysterio seeks his fifth consecutive victory at a PLE. Cena’s most recent victory at a PLE was against AJ Styles at Crown Jewel in October.

Women’s World Championship: Stephanie Vaquer vs. Nikki Bella

This will be Vaquer’s first match at Survivor Series. Bella has participated twice, winning both, although it has been 11 years since her last appearance. She defeated AJ Lee in 2014 to win the Divas Championship. Bella will seek her first victory in a PLE in over seven years. Her last victory was at Super Show-Down in 2018.
